Transition Program Activities (2 ½ Years old – 3 ½ Years old)

In this classroom, we set a strong foundation for our children so that they can best prepare for the primary class. Children will master the concept of potty training, eating independently, develop emergent literacy skills and communicate with others. They will also demonstrate abilities in: exploring the world around them, solving problems, reasoning and understanding. Children will have a firm concept of good physical health and motor development.

Our teachers will:

  • Use Level 1 Montessori materials and methods to learn “practical life skills,” such as etiquette, grace & courtesy, as well as “care of self” and “care of environment”
  • Use the “Whole language approach” to develop vocabulary, reading, writing, listening & speaking skills
  • Incorporate recognition of numerals and understanding “number concepts” by using Montessori materials such as spindles and concrete objects
  • Learn about science exploration and geographic awareness using Montessori materials
  • Incorporate cultural enrichment with ongoing celebrations such as Fall Festival, Winter Holiday, Valentines, Easter, and Chinese New Year

Daily outdoor play will involve free play, organized games and using gross motor movements
